In the process of getting our own space for Highwire Improv, a couple of conversations have focused on when things have started to feel real.
My co-founder Kristen McKenzie said It felt real to her after we met with the architecture firm helping us design the inside and looked at their drawings for the space. I first thought it felt real when the building owner emailed us about his plans for trash cans outside the building for each tenant. I don't know why minutiae like that crystallized things for me.
Currently, it feels real because of this picture below, which comes from near the front of our eventual showroom. The rectangle to the right is where a one-way window will go so the tech and people in the green room (that space will hold both those things in cozy quarters) can see what is happening on stage. Down that hallway is our lounge, which will double as a classroom and community gathering space.
It will also feel real when walls go up and we start putting chairs and things in the space. It will feel real the first time I am alone in the space. It will feel real when we have our opening weekend and when we hold our first Bit Show. It will feel real the first time I forget something and have to double back. It will feel real the first time I realize things are happening without me there.
I hope it keeps feeling real for a long, long time.
It will feel real to me when I visit it! I’m so excited for y’all!
